The Fifth Squad reports the arrest of a Freeport man for a Weapon that occurred on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 2:45 am in West Hempstead.
According to detectives, a 21-year-old store employee at the 7-Eleven store located at 136 Hempstead Turnpike called 911 and reported a disturbance. Fifth Precinct police arrived and met with the victim. An investigation by police revealed that the defendant Charles Grandberry, 58 of 11 Harrison Avenue was throwing everything around inside the store. The victim then attempted to restrain the defendant from leaving the store by holding his bicycle until police arrived. Defendant Grandberry became aggressive and displayed a black / orange folding knife. The victim fearful let go of the the defendant and observed him travel east on Hempstead Turnpike towards Hempstead. Fifth Precinct police a short time later were able to locate defendant Groundberry in the Home Depot parking lot located at 172 Fulton Avenue. Defendant Grandberry was placed into police custody without incident. Subsequent to arrest Fifth Precinct police were able to recover the knife and a crack pipe that fell to the ground in which the defendant began stepping on in order to destroy it. The pipe contained a white powdery substance believed to be crack cocaine along with a burn residue. There were no injuries reported.
Defendant Charles Grandberry is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, Tampering with Evidence, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree, Menacing of a Weapon 2nd Degree and False Personation. He will be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday, December 3, 2023. Defendant Granberry has 63 prior arrests, 12 of which were felonies.
