The Fourth Squad reports the details of a Grand Larceny/Elder Scam that occurred on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at 8:05 pm in Woodmere.
According to detectives, a 71-year-old female was contacted by phone at her residence by an unknown subject claiming to work for Amazon and that the female owed $6,000.00 on her account. The subject stated that the victims bank accounts were going to be closed and she should take money out of her accounts before they were closed. The victim went to her bank and withdrew $50,000.00. The victim was then contacted again by an unknown subject who told her someone would be coming over to pick up the money and deposit it into a treasury box. An unknown male black driving a blue Honda arrived at the victim’s residence and retrieved the money and then left the scene in an unknown direction. The investigation is ongoing.
The Nassau County Police Department urges the community to be on alert and to remind vulnerable family members, friends and neighbors about potential scams or fraud.
