The Major Case Bureau reports the arrest of two males for a Grand Larceny/Elder Scam that occurred on Friday, January 19, 2024 at 11:00 am and Saturday, January 20, 2024 in Saddle Rock.
According to Robbery Squad Detectives, the Nassau County Fraud and Forgery Unit in conjunction with the 6th Squad, report that on Thursday, January 18 2024 at 1:00 pm a male victim, 83, received a notification on his computer that the device had been compromised and he needed to contact the provided number on the computer screen for assistance. The unknown subject stated that he worked for Microsoft and advised the victim that suspicious activity was discovered on the victim’s phone and with his personal bank account. The subject requested that the victim withdraw $16,000.00 in cash to rectify the problem. The victim complied and an unknown male subject collected the funds from the victim on Friday, January 19, 2024. The victim was contacted again for an additional $15,000.00 in cash and he complied. On Saturday, January 20, 2024 a different male subject arrived to collect the money. The victim was then contacted once more, but refused to comply and contacted the police.
Subsequent to the investigation, detectives arrested Defendant Rong Chen, 47, of 7510 167th Street, Fresh Meadows and Defendant ZhenSheng Yu, 46, of 7 Center Drive, Syosset on Monday, April 8, 2024.
Defendant Chen and Defendant Yu are both charged with Grand Larceny. Defendant Chen was arraigned on Monday, April 8, 2024 and Defendant Yu will be arraigned on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
The Nassau County Police Department urges the community to be on alert and to remind vulnerable family members, friends and neighbors about potential scams or fraud.
