The Sixth Squad reports the arrest of a Brooklyn woman for an Attempted Grand Larceny that occurred on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 2:50 p.m. in Flower Hill.
According to Detectives, on Friday April 5, 2024 at 10:00 a.m., a female victim, 51, received a notification on her laptop that her computer has been locked and she needed to contact the provided number for assistance. The unknown male representative advised the victim of suspicious activity and requested $16,000.00 in cash to correct the problem. The victim withdrew the money and an unknown female subject picked it up later that evening. The victim believed she was in fact scammed and contacted Police.
On Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 2:50 p.m. the female victim received additional phone calls from the same male tech support requesting an additional $10,000.00 in cash and stated a second representative will come to her home to pick up the money. The investigation resulted in the arrest of Xiuyu Dong, 39, of 639 48th Street.
Defendant Xiuyu Dong is being charged with one count of Attempted Grand Larceny. She was arraigned on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
The investigation is ongoing.
The Nassau County Police Department urges the community to be on alert and to remind vulnerable family members, friends and neighbors about potential scams or fraud.
