The Public Information Office reports the details of a Water Emergency that occurred on Friday, May 3, 2024 at 9:20 pm in Massapequa.

According to Police, 911 received a call for a jet skier in distress near Great Island. Nassau County Aviation Helicopter 6 and Nassau County Marine 6 utilizing their spotlights were able to locate the jet ski. The jet ski had struck a sand bar and become disabled. Marine Bureau 6 was able to safely transport the operator back to Wantagh Park. No injuries were reported.

As the warm weather approaches, The Nassau County Police Department would like to recommend that operators of personal watercraft always be cognizant of their navigational surroundings, when sunset is and have all the proper safety equipment on board.
