The Fifth Squad reports the arrest of a Queens man for an Attempted Grand Larceny that occurred on Monday, December 2, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. in Garden City South.
According to Detectives, an elderly female victim, 87, of Garden City South was contacted by an unknown male subject who informed her that a Chinese Pornographic website stole money from her bank account. In order to rectify the situation discussed, the subject instructed the victim to purchase a gold bar, valued at $97,875 USC, and stated that someone would pick it up from her using a secret code. Fifth Precinct Detectives and Problem Oriented Police (POP) Officers were contacted and responded to assist the victim. After an investigation, they were able to arrest defendant He Zheng, 31, of 14601 Booth Memorial in Flushing as he attempted to pick up the gold bar from the victim’s residence.
Defendant Zheng is charged with Attempted Grand Larceny 2nd Degree and was arraigned on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
Detective’s request anyone who feels they may have been the victim of the above defendant to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. The Nassau County Police Department urges the community to be on alert and to remind vulnerable family members, friends, and neighbors about potential scams or frauds.
