The Fourth Squad reports the arrest of a Bronx man on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 12:10 PM for Elder Scam incidents that occurred in Hewlett Harbor and Port Washington.
According to detectives, the Defendant Jaime Castillo, 36, of 225 149th Street was involved in defrauding elderly victims. The victims received telephone calls from somebody claiming to be “Raymond Allen,” a lawyer representing the victim’s grandchildren who had been arrested and needed cash for bail. The defendant would then meet with the victims to retrieve the cash.
On June 2, 2023, a 90-year-old female victim of Port Washington was defrauded out of a total of $17,600 over the course of two days for what she believed was bail money.
On July 24, 2023, an 89-year-old female victim of Hewlett Harbor was defrauded out of a total of $7,700 for what she believed was bail money.
A joint investigation with Port Washington Police Department was conducted and the defendant was found to be responsible for the above incidents. He was arrested without incident.
Defendant Castillo is charged with Four (4) Counts of Grand Larceny 3rd Degree, Criminal Impersonation 2nd Degree and Scheme to Defraud 1st Degree. He will be arraigned on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
