The Eighth Squad reports the arrest of a Bronx man on Friday, November 22, 2024, at 1:30 PM for a Grand Larceny/Elder Scam that occurred in South Farmingdale.
According to detectives, the Defendant Cristhian Ortega Rodriguez, 24, of 2566 Bainbridge was involved in defrauding an elderly victim. The 83-year-old male victim received a telephone call from somebody claiming to be his Grandson. The victim was asked to call a lawyer “Larry Hays” representing the victim’s grandson who had been arrested and needed cash for bail. The victim later realized it was a scam and contacted the police.
Subsequent to the investigation, detectives were able to place the defendant under arrest as he attempted to pick up payment. While detectives attempted to place the defendant into custody, he resisted and refused to comply with verbal commands.
Defendant Rodriguez is charged with Grand Larceny 3rd Degree and Resisting Arrest. He will be arraigned on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
