The First Squad reports the arrest of two people for a Robbery that occurred on Tuesday, January 7th, 2025 at 7:00 PM in Uniondale.
According to Detectives, Officers were dispatched to a Walmart located at 1123 Jerusalem Avenue for a Robbery. Upon arrival, Officers observed female defendant Anya Slater, 20, homeless, in a physical altercation with three Walmart employees after she tried to steal store merchandise but was stopped. Officers attempted to place defendant Anya Slater under arrest but she physically resisted and an Electronic Control Device (ECD) was deployed. Defendant Anya Slater was transported to a nearby hospital for assessment. The three employees sustained minor injuries but declined medical attention at scene. Officers were advised by employees that a second defendant had fled the scene on foot with store merchandise in backpack. A short time later, male defendant Thomas Belajonas, 21 of 73 Chapin Avenue, North Merrick was located on foot near the intersection of Jerusalem Avenue and Jerusalem Road, East Meadow and placed under arrest without further incident. All store merchandise was recovered.
Defendant Anya Slater is charged with Robbery 2nd degree, three counts of Assault 3rd degree and Resisting Arrest. Defendant Thomas Belajonas is charged with Robbery 2nd degree. Both will be arraigned on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
