The Third Squad reports the arrest of a New Hyde Park man for an Assault that occurred on Friday, June 19, 2015 at 5:43 p.m. in Westbury.
According to detectives, a Third Precinct sergeant and a police officer responded to a call for a suspicious person on Post Avenue and Westbury Avenue. Upon their arrival they were informed that the defendant Prateek Pokhrel, 35 of 27 Seller Avenue attempted to pull a five year old male from his mother’s hand as she stood at the bus stop on Post Avenue. The mother was able to gain control of her child and walked away from the defendant. Pokhrel proceeded across Post Avenue and boarded a NICE bus heading eastbound on Maple Avenue. The officers were able to stop and board the bus a short distance away at Union Avenue. They ordered Pokhrel to exit the bus which he refused to do and a struggled ensued. The officers were able to gain control of Pokhrel and place him under arrest. One officer suffered a fracture to his right hand during the struggle which he was treated for at a local hospital. During the investigation it was determined that Pokhrel had damaged the side view mirror of a car as it was stopped at the traffic light eastbound on Westbury Avenue.
Pokhrel is charged with Assault 2nd degree, Custodial Interference 2nd degree, Criminal Mischief 4th degree, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Obstructing Governmental Administration, and Resisting Arrest. He will be arraigned on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at First District Court in Hempstead.
