The First Squad reports the arrest of an undomiciled man for an incident that occurred on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at 12:54 pm in Baldwin.
According to Detectives, police responded to Walgreens located at 1968 Grand Avenue for a larceny in progress. Upon arrival, officers were informed that the Defendant Douglas Shanahan, 46, had selected and concealed various items before passing all points of purchase and exited the store without rendering payment. The defendant fled scene on foot.
After a thorough investigation, officers located the defendant nearby and attempted to place him into custody when he became violent and combative. Officers had to utilize an Electronic Control Device (ECD), Taser, which successfully allowed them to place him into custody. Officers recovered a white powdery substance believed to be crack cocaine on the defendant. He was transported to a local area hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Defendant Douglas Shanahan is charged with Criminal Possession Controlled Substance 5th Degree, Criminal Trespass 3rd Degree, Petit Larceny, Resisting Arrest and Obstructing Governmental Administration. He will be arraigned on Friday, April 18, 2025 in First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
