The Homicide Squad reports the details of an arrest for an Attempted Assault on a Police Officer that occurred on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at 4:25 p.m. in Carle Place.
According to Detectives, Bureau of Special Operations (BSO) Officers were investigating a male with an open Nassau County Bench Warrant. BSO officers located the defendant Peter Centeno, 42, of 19 Nevada Street, Hicksville in a 2023 Chevy Malibu behind the Holiday Inn, located at 369 Old Country Road.
While police were conducting their investigation, the defendant intentionally drove his vehicle into the unmarked patrol car and attempted to strike the Officer who had exited the vehicle. The subject reversed the vehicle, and then accelerated the vehicle forward striking the Officer, placing him in fear for his life at which time the Officer then discharged his weapon. After refusing to comply with verbal commands, Officers attempted to remove the defendant from his vehicle. The defendant intentionally accelerated his vehicle at Officer s, once again, striking the patrol car and rendering it inoperable. He then fled scene westbound onto Old Country Road.
Shortly after, the defendant was located and apprehended on Douglaston Parkway, Queens. He was placed under arrest without further incident. The defendant and Officers were transported to local area hospitals for evaluation and treatment.
Defendant Peter Centeno is charged with Attempted Assault 1st Degree, Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree, Reckless Endangerment 1St Degree, Menacing 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree and Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. He was arraigned on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead. Defendant Centeno has five prior arrests for various crimes, including violent felonies.
