The Arson Bomb Squad reports the arrest of two Franklin Square men for an incident that occurred on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at 6:18 PM in Franklin Square.
According to detectives, Nicholas Moschonas, 33, of 516 3rd Street was observed setting off fireworks on the corner of 3rd Street and 2nd Avenue. Upon further investigation, it was determined that a 2019 Dodge RAM belonging to Peter Mari, 33, of 905 Hancock Avenue, was discovered with numerous boxes of fireworks inside the vehicle. Both Defendant Moschonas and Defendant Mari were placed into custody without further incident. Subsequent to the investigation, detectives seized 14 cases of fireworks.
For the safety and security of all residents and visitors, Nassau County Police will continue their zero-tolerance approach regarding the possession and illegal use of fireworks.
The Nassau County Police Department reminds its residents that the use of explosives, including fireworks, is illegal and extremely dangerous.
Defendant Nicholas Moschonas is charged with Explosives – Licenses and Certificates, Explosives - Storage, Unlawfully Selling Fireworks and Reckless Endangerment. Defendant Peter Mari is charged with Explosives – Licenses and Certificates. They will be arraigned on Friday, July 5, 2024 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
