The Homicide Squad reports the details of a Fatal Vehicular Accident that occurred on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at 8:32 pm in North Lawrence.
According to Detectives, a 48-year-old male was operating a blue moped traveling westbound in the eastbound lane on Rockaway Turnpike, where he was involved in a head-on collision with a 2015 Honda SUV being operated by a 57-year-old male. Following the initial collision, the moped and the operator were then struck by a 2004 box truck, being operated by a 21-year-old male, also traveling eastbound in front of 605 Rockaway Turnpike.
As a result of the collisions, the victim suffered serious injuries and was pronounced deceased at scene by a Nassau County Police Medic. The operators of the Honda and the box truck remained at scene. No other injuries were reported.
The investigation is ongoing.
