The Fourth Squad reports the arrest of a Brooklyn man for an Elder Scam / Grand Larceny that occurred on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at 9:25 AM in Inwood.
According to detectives, a 73-year-old female victim received a call from an unknown suspect claiming to work for her bank’s fraud department. The suspect told the victim there were fraudulent charges on her bank card and they would arrange for someone to pick up the card from her. The victim realized she was being scammed and contacted Police for assistance.
Detectives coordinated with the victim and were able to locate the Defendant Darren Saunders, 28, of 600 E. 21st Street. He was placed under arrest without incident at 5:00 PM. Subsequent to the investigation, the defendant was also found to be in possession of a fraudulent drivers license and a fraudulent credit card.
Defendant Darren Saunders is charged with Attempted Grand Larceny 4th Degree, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 3rd Degree. He will be arraigned on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at First District Court, Hempstead.
