The First Squad reports the arrest of two men from Freeport for an Attempted Robbery that occurred on Sunday, May 9, 2021 at 2:16 a.m. in Freeport.
According to Detectives, a male victim, 38, was walking in the vicinity of North Main Street and Leonard Avenue when he was approached from behind by two male subjects. As the victim turned around, subject 1 lifted a large machete over his head as subject 2 stated “give me your money”. The victim, in fear for his life, punched subject 1 in the face and was able to run away. Both subjects fled the scene northbound on North Main Street. The victim followed the subjects and called 911. Freeport Police Officers arrived and located both subjects. Defendant’s Johel Castro, 45, of 69 Lillian Avenue and Nelson Castro-Guerra, 49, of 21 Independence Avenue were taken into custody without further incident.
Defendant Johel Castro has been charged with Robbery 1st Degree (attempt), Robbery 2nd Degree (attempt), Menacing 2nd Degree and Possession of a Dangerous Weapon 4th Degree. Defendant Nelson Castro-Guerra has been charged with Robbery 1st Degree (attempt) and Robbery 2nd Degree (attempt). They will both be arraigned on Monday, May 10, 2021 in Mineola.
