Renaming of Police Headquarters
County Executive Laura Curran, Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder, the Nassau County Legislature and numerous elected officials are honored to announce that Nassau Police Department Headquarters will be officially renamed “The William J. Willett Nassau County Police Headquarters.” The dedication and sign unveiling ceremony will be attended by elected officials, department members, family and friends.
The late Commissioner Willett began his career on August 3, 1953 with the Nassau County Police Department and rose through the ranks, ultimately being appointed the first African American Commissioner of Police in 2000.
Considered a trailblazer, Commissioner Willett served the police department and our communities with Loyalty, Integrity, Fairness and Excellence for 48 years.
