The First Squad reports the arrest of a Roosevelt man for an incident that occurred on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at 8:53 p.m. in Roosevelt.
According to Detectives, First Precinct Officers responded to a Rose Avenue residence for a disturbance with a knife. Upon arrival officers located a female victim, 48, outside of the residence. The victim stated she was having a dispute with the defendant, John Myrick, 54, of Roosevelt. During the dispute the defendant displayed a knife putting the victim in fear for her safety. The defendant locked himself in the house and claimed that he didn’t want to live anymore while making statements such as, “you’re going to have to kill me.” The Emergency Services Unit (ESU) was called in to assist.
After a short time the defendant agreed to come out of the residence and was taken into custody without further incident. The defendant was taken to a local hospital for a mental evaluation. No injuries were reported during the incident.
The defendant, John Myrick, has been charged with Menacing in the 2nd degree, two (2) counts of Criminal Contempt in the 1st degree, Criminal Contempt in the 2nd degree and two (2) counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd degree. He will be arraigned on Thursday, May 13, 2021 in Mineola.
